The Charge-Coupled Device (CCD): Capturing Light
You know, digital photography wouldn't be what it is today without the charge-coupled device, or CCD. It's a special integrated circuit that's used to record images. And it was another brilliant invention from Bell Labs, created in 1969 by Willard Boyle and George E. Smith.
Think about it – CCDs are the heart of digital cameras, video cameras, all sorts of imaging tech. They take light and turn it into electrical signals, which then get processed to create those images we all love.
